12/8/2023 0 Comments Intro chicago dim sum menuWith an unassuming yet trendy ambiance, this is a great brunch spot for a date, or brunch with friends or family. If you’re interested in a boozy brunch or custom coffee, they’ve also got a nice wine list, mimosas, bloody marys, and coffee drinks. I felt the portion sizes were well done, so that you were able to have a variety of dishes even in a small group, without being super full. Each dish was unique, flavorful, and visually pleasing. I was very impressed with the brunch at S.K.Y. It was a delicious way to end our meal at S.K.Y. Underneath was a perfectly cooked piece of chicken, moist and glistening. The breading was very thin, but super flavorful and salty. I was imagining your traditional fried chicken with a thick, crispy batter, but this was not the case. The butter definitely subdued the heat, and left a tasty compliment to the sweetness of the creamed corn, and the saltiness of the fried chicken. Even though I am not a spice fan, this sauce was incredible. It was served over a bed of creamed corn, and table-side, had a habanero butter sauced poured over it. Our fifth and final dish was the “entree” course from the tasting menu. Another winning dish with a fun and unique play on a traditional plate. I found it to have a little bit of heat already from the chili flakes, and thought it was extremely flavorful. Not pictured because I am not a big spicy food fan was a large bowl of hot sauce in case you wanted to spice up the dish. It was loaded with fresh pieces of fried egg and delicious chunks of bacon. Served in a relatively small bowl, there was nothing small about this dish. This is the “appetizer” section of the tasting menu. Our selection from the second column of the menu was next, the bacon and egg fried rice. ![]() All in all, a great dish for any lobster and dumpling lover. It was the perfect compliment to the rich lobster. The yellow sauce is a jade butter sauce, topped with some herbs. Each dumpling was packed full of juicy meaty lobster, making a filling and savory dish. As the highest priced brunch menu item, I was pleased that these dumplings did not skimp on the lobster meat. The Maine lobster dumplings were as delicious as I had hoped. This was probably the dish I was most excited for from my pre-read of the menu. I was wowed by this simple mushroom dish, and how well all the elements came together.Īfter the first course, our second add on was brought out. The flavors sang together, creating a flavor explosion. They were served in a lemon vinaigrette, topped with goat cheese, avocado, and peppers. ![]() If all salad was this good, I’d eat salad every day! The mushrooms were cooked perfectly–tender in the meaty parts, and slightly crispy on top. The first column of the pre-fix menu is meant to be the “salad” course. The first dish off our 3 course menu selection was the maitake mushroom dish. Highly recommend as an addition to the meal. I’d never had bao served this way, and thought it was brilliant for brunch! The jam was phenomal as well. Rather than a standard pastry or bread, it was sweet, toasted bao buns served with butter and fresh blueberry jam. This dish was very simple, but a great idea. Next out of the kitchen was the toasted bao. I could have eaten a whole plate of them! A very nice touch and sweet introduction to our meal. Each one was so tasty, but by far my favorite was the cornbread Madeline. There was a chocolate eclair-like donut, a matcha covered donut hole, and a cornbread Madeline. Every dish was mouthwateringly delicious! Here’s my review, dish by dish:īefore any of the courses we ordered, we were given a few assorted pastries from the kitchen. For add-ons, we went with the toasted bao and the Maine lobster dumplings. I’ll admit it was hard to narrow down our selections, which is why I will absolutely be returning to try another set of menu items! But for my first go around I chose the maitake mushrooms, bacon & egg fried rice, and organic fried chicken from the three course menu. This was a perfect portion to leave brunch not feeling stuffed. For two people, we went with one fixed menu (3 dishes) and two supplemental dishes. ![]() ![]() Along with the three column, pick one from each fixed price menu, there are also supplemental dishes you can order a la carte. As a dim sum lover, I was so excited to try this concept. is a unique brunch spot, from its unmarked door to its dim sum style tasting menu. Located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, S.K.Y. In fact, it’s definitely a contender for my regular rotation. It’s been a while since I’ve tried a brand new brunch spot in Chicago, and S.K.Y. There’s nothing more exciting to me than trying a new restaurant with rave reviews for the first time.
